Our current project, and the first time we use instructions between ourselves to generate artwork. Currently living in different countries, we see instructions as a method to work across distance. Our motivation is focused on the collaborative experience itself - which takes the form of confronting the other with unexpected challenges in the form of instructions.

The procedure is simply: on regular basis we will post (airmail) an instruction to our partner. The receiver/interpreter will then be responsible for the actual materialization of the idea.

Conceptually, the core of this project is the tension between ideation and material realization. Pieces are created by being imaging but as instructions for physical action they also declare a further claim in the world.

Some instructions:

Take a picture of a stone everyday for a month

Make a flipbook

Ride your bike for 15 minutes and try to end in a place you have never been.

Send an application for an art exhibition that you will never get accepted,

Keep a copy

Frame it

Show it on the first exhibition place you get accepted

You need: superglue, temperament and two Bordalo Pinheiro pieces.

In a moment of frustration, break the two items. Then, when you are ready, make use of the glue and make the two ceramic pieces become one.

Anonymous Letter

The Anonymous Letter project aims at getting involved with people`s private emotional space by confronting them to send an anonymous letter. Our goal is to start processes of social interaction that transcends the boundaries of the art space.

Procedure: the gallery officer will approach the visitor with an envelope containing a cd. Without knowing the content of the cd, the visitor will be asked to send it as an anonymous letter, to an address free of her choice. The envelope will be posted by the gallery.

The content on the cd is a sound piece. Our motivation behind this is a desire to work with aural experience of a world dominated by the visual. In using simple, pure ambiences, extracted and recorded from real life situations, we wish to set up a context for a process of listening where negotiation of space becomes the pivotal involvement. The recipient will have to engage in an active process of having to resolve the mystery origin of the sound.

The work happens from the lack of control of all parties involved, and hereby
making a statement about the potential excitement provoked by dismissed evidence.

Botanical Soup

Botanical Soup was an action towards making use of the vegetables grown in the Botanical Garden surrounding Bergen Museum. We went to the garden at night time, picked herbs and vegetables and prepared a delicious soup.

C.F.N.E Manifesto was established in Reykjavik September 2007 by
A Kitchen Affair.

While traveling to the scenic Golden Circle, the artists decided to gather material
documentation of the journey, in an unconventional way.

Two spaces were registered during the trip through two different manners.
From the inside of the car a sound recording device reports the act of driving and the verbal reactions to the landscape. An additional space (the outside natural landscape)was documented though collecting rubbish at different locations during the trip.

The basis behind this attitude relies on the belief that preconceived conception about a location narrows the possibilities of experience for the artist. The actions during this working process are a manifestation of a need to challenge the common travellers collecting habits.

The C.F.N.E Manifesto is a declaration of Awareness during the traveling experience.
